Ten Toes Above the Water Line

ten toes above the water line
moisture in the air and a glass of wine
here is where I rejuvenate
This is what I do
when life is too much, too fast, too harsh, too painful

half submerged-half awake
I think, I contemplate
slow down my heart rate
slow down my racing mind
This is what I do
to find peace

little rituals we repeat
stroking and calming ourselves
moments alone to search our soul for answers
ask hard questions of why we run at windmills
For this is what I do
a female, Don Quixote
battling my invisible foe

tonight I nurse a wounded ego
spurned like a naughty child
I retreat to repair the damage
one single crystal drop floats across an extended toe
triggers an epiphany
expands into thought
merges into words
"You bring this upon yourself"
Yes, this is what I do

in every situation with every new face I meet
I expose myself Full Monty!
amid bubbles and scented candles
searching for one clear thought
one true measurement, I'm desperate to understand-Why?
This is what I do!
